NAFTA is an agreement between Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. that promotes free trade including temporary labor mobility.
Trade NAFTA Dependent (TD) status is granted to a spouse and minor children of a Trade NAFTA (TN) status holder.
U.S. citizens, who apply for admission on TN status in Canada, receive work permits allowing them to work for their Canadian employer. Their accompanying spouses are ALLOWED to work in Canada.
Canadian citizens, who apply for admission under TN status in the U.S., receive work authorization allowing them to work for their American employer. However, Canadian accompanying spouses in the U.S. on TD status are NOT ALLOWED to work.
To ensure reciprocity and equality in application of NAFTA, amend regulations to allow spouses on TD status to work in the U.S.
