Apply term limits to the President and Congress

Created by J.C. on January 24, 2013

Amend the constitution to reflect term limits for the President and all members of Congress to 1 term of 6 years.

Federally elected offices have become a life-long career and as such, electees are no longer beholden to the public that voted them in. By enacting an amendment that no federally-elected official shall serve more than one term of 6 years, accountability will return to politics.

Without the worry of getting re-elected, officials can spend their time working on the issues they promised to their constituency during their campaigns. With a 6-year term, most officials should have enough time to have a significant impact on the issues they've chosen.

Officials would also be less beholden to special interest groups and lobbyists who would have less influence on future campaigns.
