Carmen Segarra was hired by the New York Fed to improve its oversight of large banks. She was fired after seven months because she refused to remove a negative finding of Goldman Sachs from a report. Recent investigations by ProPublica and This American Life have documented a culture of complacency, corruption, and inaction in the New York Fed, as well as the firing of Ms. Segarra for running afoul of this culture. We need someone like Ms. Segarra who has the honesty and integrity to ensure that the New York Fed meets its regulatory responsibilities and does not kowtow to large financial institutions.
