After superstorm Sandy, we were all inundated with pictures showing the devastation and the harrowing experiences of the survivors. President Obama visited and commiserated with some of them. Now we are witnessing the second storm! This one is silent and insidious. Survivors are being virtually gutted by their insurers. Claims are being denied or claimants being made to accept ridiculous "settlements." It is particularly galling when one reads of people who have never had a claim on their homeowners' insurance while diligently paying their premiums for 20+ years now being at the mercy of a powerful industry. Granted that insurers (like any other business) is about making profits. Yet there is something immoral in denying valid claims for flimsy reasons like sewer mixing with storm waters
