The professional military culture has a foundational problem of group-think and "check-the-box" career growth. This issue was described in detail recently by Mr. James Fallows in his article for The Atlantic, The Tragedy of the American Military.
Mr. Fallows' recommendation to help signal a shift in culture is for the administration to appoint Mr. Donald Vandergriff as the next Director of Net Assessment. I believe this is an excellent idea and encourage the administration to make this appointment.
