It is clearer with each day that Gov. Snyder and the Michigan Legislature are both in need of an Emergency Manager. They have proven themselves chronically incapable of handling crises in Flint, Detroit and elsewhere that have been of their own making. They have thereby, following their own arguments in establishing the current Emergency Manager laws in Michigan, forfeited the right to continue making decisions without oversight. If Emergency Managers have been appropriate for Flint and other cities in Michigan, so too are they for the rest of the state. If it has been appropriate to remove local mayors and city councils from real power because they have been mismanaged, it is appropriate to treat the Governor and legislature similarly. Colin Powell should be sent as Manager.
