Americans are increasingly concerned about the implications of the IRS targeting scandal. The possibility of political organizations being targeted by the IRS presents a direct and instituted violation of the First Amendment; that the people live under the fear of retribution for the exercise of their basic rights.
The lack of cooperation by the Internal Revenue Service in providing documents subpoenaed by the House Committees investigating them, as well as the slow pace of the Justice Department's investigation into this matter and premature comments as to its outcome are adding to the general perception that a conflict of interest exists.
We request that the President instruct the Attorney General to appoint an Independent Counsel to vigorously investigate the IRS.
