Janet Yellen is current vice chairwoman of the Federal Reserve. She has the best economic forecasting record of anyone at the Fed, according to the Wall Street Journal. She has been chairwoman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. She advocated neither the international capital market liberalization nor the domestic financial sector deregulation Lawrence Summers trumpeted, which led respectively to the Asian financial crisis of 1997 and the global financial crisis of 2008. She has enormous respect among central bank governors worldwide for her intelligent leadership and a reputation for building consensus. (She also never suggested publicly that women are innately worse at math and science.)
