According to NOAA, 2012 was warmest and second most extreme year on record for the contiguous U.S. Temperatures were 3.2 degrees above the 20th Century average and a full degree above the previous record. Every state in the contiguous US had above-average temps in '12. 19 states had a record warm year and 26 more had one of their 10 warmest years. 11 disasters cost $1B or more, and Sandy caused over $60B in damage and devastated large parts of New York City.
