We are in an extraordinary time. The Senate deliberately delayed the appointment of Merrick Garland on the chance the new POTUS would be republican. He is, but he is no normal Republican. Donald Trump represents a threat to American democracy with his threats to minorities, women, immigrants, NATO , and his demonstrated lack of truthfulness and transparency. Extraordinary times require courageous actions. I realize this goes against your gracious demeanor, Mr Obama, but it would at least provide one institution of our government with some fortification against the onslaught of Trump.
