The Senate has refused to do its Constitutional duty to advise and consent on the President's nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court. As a result, the Court not functioned at full efficiency for almost a year. The deadlock seems likely to continue when the next President takes office. The Court should not be a political football. The President has nominated a man that all agree is highly qualified for the position. He has the power to make appointments during the recess of the Senate. The Senate will be in recess next week. There is also the Constitutionally recognized "intersession recess" which occurs on January 3 when the old Congress adjourns and the new Congress is seated. Urge President Obama to restore the Court to full function.
