Gil Kerlikowske is being appointed to a real cop job- to head U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This time this administration should appoint a Drug Czar that is about more than just law enforcement and the penalties of drug policy. Please appoint someone that understands not just the law surrounding drugs in the US, but also the intricacies of addiction, the unjust effect of current drug laws on urban communities and the medical and economic possibilities of reforming the drug policies of our nation. This is an opportunity for this administration to show that they can fulfill the promise of CHANGE so heavily touted during campaigns and actually listen to the voice of the people and make real change in our policies.
