The State Department's plans to appoint an Arctic Ambassador is both exciting for the United States, but leaves concerns. While President Obama has appointed some appropriate candidates for ambassadorships around the globe, he has also made decisions that have embarrassed the State Department and host countries. Many appointees do not speak the language of the host countries and have little knowledge of their cultures. These lackluster appointees have no qualifications other than having contributed heavily to President Obama’s campaign.
