Appoint a Special Prosecutor with Authority to Prosecute for CIA Torture

Created by M.W. on December 15, 2014

A recent Congressional report raises significant implications about CIA torture of prisoners. Based on that report, the UN has called for prosecution of those responsible.

Unfortunately, this issue is clouded by partisan politics. Additionally, an executive branch agency (CIA) and department (Justice Department) may be implicated. Given that officials within the Justice Department provided legal opinions apparently to justify torture, the Justice Department has at least the appearance of a conflict of interest considering this matter.

I ask that a Special Prosecutor be appointed, independent from the Justice Department, with authority to investigate and to prosecute if there is adequate evidence of criminal activity by any official or former official.
