If confirmed, Loretta Lynch would be a strong progressive voice on the Supreme Court for many, many years. Should she be rejected by the Republicans, innumerable Democratic voters--especially blacks and women--would be driven to the polls. Instead of nominating a moderate who may well not be confirmed, Obama could ensure the election of a Democratic President who could successfully put a progressive on the Court--especially since the Democrats are very likely to take back the Senate in 2016.
