The high frequency of food-borne illnesses can be attributed to the lack of resources for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This debt grows in accordance with the ever-enlarging industry, especially as imports increase with globalization. Even now, when it is increasingly apparent that the FDA is in desperate need of more funds, Congress and several administrations increased duties for the agency while decreasing funds. This lack of funds results in the FDA's inability to more frequently carry out inspections in food production facilities, in addition to increasing reliance on private auditors, who grant sterling marks to many below-standard clients.
Our lives are threatened by what is meant to keep us alive: food. So join me in this petition to increase funds for the FDA.
