Lyme Disease and related co-infections are vector borne pathogens that now affect citizens in every state of the United States. Hundreds of thousands of people are infected each year. This is truly an epidemic.
Due to outdated diagnostic testing and treatment guidelines, citizens who are suffering countless symptoms have a difficulty getting an accurate diagnosis then must find a doctor willing to treat them. A majority of these doctors are not covered by health insurance, which then adds another burden on those who are suffering. Many are not able to get treatment because the cost is too high.
There are a handful of researchers working in this area who realize the enormity of problem. But more needs to be done. Washington needs to increase funding for tick borne diseases.
