The government has borrowed $2.7 trillion from the Social Security Trust funds, paying interest. This practice should be extended to offer loans to industry in order to build up and create jobs. The interest that accrues added to the Social Security will improve the ability for Social Security to maintain its 100% function, and circumvent the suggestions of reducing it to 75% in 20 or so years. This is the use of an existing form of capital accumulation belonging to the public to support industrial development, which has been neglected by private financial interests for the past thirty years.
