Following the 2014 State of the Union Address, US Representative Michael Grimm (R-Staten Island) threatened to kill NY1 reporter Mike Scotto after asking a question regarding his campaign finance investigation. The entire incident was caught on camera.
If threatening a congressperson is federal felony offense, the same should hold true when a member of Congress threatens the life and safety of a journalist. The First Amendment protects the Freedom of Press. It does not protect government officials who make death threats towards members of the media, or anyone for that matter. Rep. Michael Grimm should be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
