Since the election of Donald Trump as president, there has been a surge of hate crimes on the groups he targetted during his campaign. White nationalists and other hate groups feel emboldened. And Trump is demonstrating, through his nominations and appointments, that he will surround himself with white nationalists and others with long histories of racism and intolerance. His nominee for Attorney General is a man whose appointment to a federal judgeship was blocked because of his racist views, yet he will be the person charged with protecting Americans' civil rights. There are many Americans who feel that they are in danger because of their race, their religion, their sexual orientation, or their political views. We are asking that you work with Canada to gain refugee status for us.
