Every district and every region in America has a representative that has been freely elected through democratic means. Therefore, if our elected official sees fit that we as a people must endure hard times in order to improve our country than they shall lead by example and accept less pay as the rest of us. If George Washington could sleep near the men, eat with the men and bleed with them why can our representatives not suffer with us. A police officer or firefighter makes on average 55 thousand a year but a senator or representative makes over 110 thousand. I believe there is alittle fat to be cut there. If they cant work for 70 thousand a year then maybe they should not represent us. It is suppose to be an honor to represent the people not a career.
