Since the 1886 case of Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad, the U. S. Supreme Court has been eroding the distinctions between living, breathing citizens and corporations. The Citizens United decision, perhaps the second worst High Court decision after Dred Scott, has culminated in the most expensive election cycle on record. If we are to have a government "of the people, by the people, and for the people", we must ensure that the "people" in question are actual human beings, not "artificial people" with corporate charters. We should ask the President to take the lead by calling upon Congress, in his State of the Union Address, to draft an amendment restricting the application of the Bill of Rights to human beings.
