While many Americans have health care through their employers, many Americans are still without health care in states where regulators oppose federal health care reforms. The imminent threat to US GDP posed by the growing Ebola epidemic (and other unforeseen epidemics) can be reduced by providing all US residents with access to necessary health care.
A centralized payer in a non-profit health care system can ensure that capitalists do not eviscerate the savings of non-wealthy Americans as a pandemic ravages the country.
Obviously, this cost will need to be covered by a tax increase, but this necessary cost will prevent the deaths of millions of Americans and their children.
