ask congress for funding for basic housing and medication needs for homeless people with mental illnesses nationwide.

Created by J.R. on April 14, 2014

There are so many empty buildings and houses due to foreclosures that could be used for housing for our homeless and mentally ill Americans. The only alternative for people living in mental institutions is living on the streets and stopping the medications they need. Allow social security disability and medicare to cover these costs instead of having to hospitalize people when they are in extreme crisis. If the public are worried as I know they are about having people with mental illnesses living around them in residential areas, these people need to know they are already living there without proper medications without safe housing. The percentage of violently mentally ill people is the same as the general population meaning mental illness doesn't equal violence.
