California’s 37th Congressional District comprises the largest Jewish community west of New York City in the US. The district is represented by Karen Bass, who decided to boycott Prime Minister Netanyahu’s speech to Congress on March 3, 2015.
The speech was controversial issue, many in the Jewish communities did not support Netanyahu’s decision, but as the elected representative of the 2nd largest Jewish community on the United States Congresswoman Bass had an obligation to attend.
This is among the greatest examples of a failure by an elected official to represent their constituency honestly and in good faith to the extent that one can be reasonably argue that her actions were a direct violation of the spirit of the 17th Amendment to the US Constitution.
