Ask congress to offer an amendment to change from the Electoral College to a popular vote for electing the president.

Created by S.M. on January 25, 2013

This petition would ask the president to urge congress to put forward an amendment to the U.S. constitution changing the presidential election from being decided by the Electoral College, and instead by a straight national popular vote. Whichever candidate gets the most votes would be the one who is elected president. It could further be stated, if congress so chooses, that a minimum percentage would be necessary to win the election, with the course to be taken in the event no one obtains the necessary minimum.
