We call upon the President to act and request Congress to pass legislation to provide the Governor of Puerto Rico with the tools to manage its debt problem.
The fellow American citizens of Puerto Rico deserve the same treatment that other Americans have in the 50 States to restructure the public debt of their government. The Goverment of PR wants to pay, but needs the tools to do it in a reasonable manner that does not result in a government shut down, uncontrolled bankrupcy, higher unemployment, and drastic cuts in services, such as: education, health, retirement pensions, safety and security services.
Puertoricans have suffered the economic crisis for more years and more deeply than many fellow Americans. It is now time for Congress to act! Let PR restructure its debt.
