We ask President Obama and the Congress of the United States of America to change the present law and to restore judicial discretion to Federal Judges and to re-write the laws on minimum-mandatory sentences for non-violent, drug offenders. The President and Congress need to restore appropriate judicial discretion by placing the power of sentencing back in the hands of Federal Judges, where it belongs. By doing so, Congress will help to restore some semblance of "fairness" to federal sentences and will reduce much of the racial disparity that exists with federal sentencing. We ask that Congress abandon its 20 year policy of minimum-mandatory sentences for non-violent drug offenders. These laws are out-dated and not well suited to the modern day drug problems that face our great nation.
