With an estimated population of 2 million seniors identifying as part of the LGBT community and that number expected to double by 2030, there is a dearth of affordable housing options where our community can spend our senior years living an open and honest life.
Many of us do not have families that will care for us in our golden years and after years of living our lives openly and honestly, we should not be forced back into the closet as we age. Many current housing options for the LGBT community are priced well above what most of us will be able to afford. Still worse, existing affordable senior housing options are not safe havens from discrimination.
We ask HUD to create senior affordable housing options specifically for our community in all major and mid sized population centers.
