We the people ask the Executive branch to recognize that a free and inquisitive Press, being essential to a representative democracy, professional reporters must be able to investigate and report activities by the Government, including seeking out potentially classified information, without fear of prosecution, forced testimony, or seizure of documents and correspondence.
In addition to asking that it withdraw its efforts to force testimony from NYT reporter James Risen regarding anonymous sources, and particularly former CIA agent Jeffrey Sterling, we ask the Executive branch to cease persecution and required testimony of all professional journalists regarding anonymous sources.
