Since our city council and mayor can't seem to come out one way or the other on this issue, I feel it's time to bring this issue to the attention of the big dogs.
It's being proposed to build the world's largest Methanol Refinery on the Tacoma tide flats, for the purpose of refining piped-in natural gas into Tacoma and turn it into methanol, which would then be sent to China to be turned into plastics.
The methanol plant is expected to use 14 million gallons of water each day and use as much power to provide electricity to nearly 400,000 homes, almost the same amount of water the whole city uses on a daily basis.
Almost all the towns around Tacoma are coming out against it, but our mayor and city council remain silent. This is a very bad idea that will only harm Tacoma. Please help us.
