ask professional and collegiate athletes to remove all headwear during the playing of the National Anthem per US Code.

Created by E.W. on January 24, 2013

US Code, Title 36, Chap 10, Para 171 requires men to remove their headdress during the playing of the National Anthem. Athletes, especially football players, often wear a skullcap, helmet liner, or headband and don't remove it during the playing of the Anthem, which violates the Flag Code.
I hereby petition the White House contact the NFL, NCAA and other sports organizations to request compliance with the Code and request penalties and fines for noncompliance.
Note: The US Flag Code includes the term "in uniform", which normally refers to the Military, Law Enforcement, First Responders, and other such professions serving the community in an official capacity. It is highly doubtful the term was intended to include personnel in sports uniforms.
