It has been disclosed that the Senate barber shop has cost the taxpayers $350,000 a year for the last 10 years. This works out to $3,500 for a single Senator to keep their hair cut, assuming that every Senator actually used the barber shop to get their hair cut.
This kind of cost, used for the exclusive convenience of 100 people, is far too high to continue.
One of the arguments that have been made is that they are too busy to use outside barber shops. That is nonsense. The Senate does not stay in Washington DC long enough to use the facilities. In fact, the Senate is not in session almost half the time, and are never in session more than 3 weeks a month.
