Dear Mr. President,
We are petitioning to urge you to ask the senior executives and owners of sports news media organizations in the US to stop using the word "redskins". We want a news blackout on the word.
We find the word "redskins" to be offensive and a grevious insult to Native Americans everywhere - a people who have historically suffered so much.
The fact that the football team in our Nation's capital uses such a racist word as their team name is wrong on all accounts.
Ask all Americans to voluntairly remove the "R" word from their lexicon, just like respectful people have stopped using the "N" word. Could you imagine the effect if sportscasters refused to say the team name? If scoreboards in the 2014 season said Chicago Bears vs. ????? We can all do our part!
