Battery storage and green generation are all DC. Much of today's electronics is DC. HVDC is already used for undersea power and to connect AC grids. 2 wires vs. 4 in calling cost savings. Distributed generation and consumption minimize resistive and heat generating transmission loss. No power factor compensation. No ground faults. Less corona loss. Less radio frequency most pollution. Much waste exists in AC-DC and DC-AC conversion from DC generation, in powerbricks, and inside TVs, computers, and other electrons in most new appliances. AC was an artifact of history from read of voltage conversion, DC technology has broken through. Most of all, DC storage will disrupt power systems as capacities disrupted electronics.
