The Treasury Department has recently announced that a woman will be placed on the newly designed $10 bill to commemorate women gaining the right to vote. Fannie Lou Hamer would be an ideal candidate for this as she represents the fight for getting ALL women the right to vote. Her courage in testifying in front the of DNC Credentials Committee about the obstacles of trying to register to vote was a crucial link between the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the much needed Voting Rights Act of 1965. Fannie Lou Hamer is the embodiment of the spirit of recognizing women's long history of the battle for the ballot.
