We need immediate legislation to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004, ban high-capacity magazines, require criminal background checks on gun buyers at gun shows, and improve instant background checks to more thoroughly catch people with histories of mental illness.
No citizen, adult or child, should be subjected to the continuing menace of gun violence in this country. Elected officials should not support the call for expanded "gun rights" which only serve to endanger us all.
