ASSESS AND REDESIGN THE MENTAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN THE UNITED STATES

Created by J.G. on December 17, 2012

Mental healthcare in the U.S. is inadequate and inaccessible for many individuals. We request that in new joint research, the National Institute of Mental Health and the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services develop a more effective plan to identify, assess, treat, and follow-up with those individuals who require mental healthcare services, elevating mental health issues to the level of physical health issues. Additionally, funding should be more fully provided for all individuals who cannot otherwise afford this type of care. Finally, an education program must be an integral component of this ongoing project to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues to ensure people are not reluctant to receive this type of care.
