Roughly two-thirds of all filibusters in the Senate's history have taken place in the last thirty years.
The number of filibusters between the Bush and Obama administrations is unprecedented and ridiculous. Filibustering on behalf of an unheard or less represented minority is justifiable and admirable. However, to filibuster strictly to halt legislation in order to further a political agenda that may wield reelection by constituents is selfish, short-sighted and a shameful example of politics being put before the people.
In 1975, the number of votes required for cloture was lowered to 60. Lower that once more and allow the government to break through the dam of "No" that is an international embarrassment.
If not this, at least bring back dueling between elected officials.
