Student loan debt is rising and becoming an overwhelming burden on the country. There is an incentive to maintain a level of student debt by making the interest paid tax deductible.
For most Americans, their current profession was enabled by the education which was financed by accumulating this debt.
We petition the Obama administration to submit legislation that would allow payments made to the principle of Federal Direct student loans to be applied as if they were business expenses. This would allow a tax deduction (subject to the 2% floor) for principle payments and ease the burden of paying off these loans.
