Given that unemployment is harmful both to individuals and to government at all levels, more needs to be done to put those who are unemployed back to work. One thing that can be done without passing any laws is to changing government hiring practices. Currently, there is no priority given to hiring unemployed people for job openings, in spite of the fact that doing so would provide benefits both to the people getting jobs and to the governments that would no longer need to support them. Additionally, if the governments led by example, it might lead more companies to remove their prejudices against talking to unemployed candidates, leading to far faster resolution of the problem of unemployment.
