The President has made climate change and energy independence top priorities. The solar decathlon challenges college students to "design, build, and operate solar panel homes that are cost effective, energy efficient, and attractive." By attending this premier academic event, to be held for the first time outside of Washington, the President will send a message, especially to young people, that addressing these issues is critical to the health and well-being of our planet.
