Auditing election results to protect our democracy from hacking

The presidential election of 2016 has called into question the degree to which our government is prepared to deal with cyber-security threats that cut to the heart of our democracy. Computer scientists with deep knowledge of our voting systems say that "paper ballots are the best available technology for casting votes." We understand that the President is duty-bound to ensure a smooth transition of power. However, the President has an equal obligation to protect the foundations of our democracy. We therefore petition him to fulfill this duty by NOT discouraging efforts to ascertain the integrity of the vote, and to support all grassroots efforts to ensure that our democracy is not undermined by technological innovations for which our innumerable voting districts are poorly prepared.
