The United States government should provide humanitarian aid to the victims of the Assad government in Syria. According to the United Nations, more than 7,500 Syrian citizens have been murdered by their government since last Spring. As a signatory to the UN Convention on the Prevention of Genocide and the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the U.S. government has an obligation to aid in the protection of innocent civilians who are being tortured and murdered daily in Syria. The United States should pursue the establishment of a no-fly zone in Syria to operate as a safe haven for those who are being targeted by the Assad regime.
