Authorize a medal for veterans that suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other mental injuries.

Created by D.C. on May 03, 2013

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) is a severely debilitating condition that effects millions of people, especially military veterans. It is estimated that nearly 30% of veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are being treated at VA hospitals for PTSD. PTSD has numerous potential effects including: nightmares, hallucinations and increased risk of suicide. This petition calls on the Obama Administration and the Department of Defense to create a new medal to be awarded to sufferers of this condition, as well as other mental injuries incurred during service. Mental injuries can be as crippling as physical injuries, and those who suffer from them should be honored for their sacrifice and continued resilience.
