According to the Federal Register, the US government received approximately $917,000 in gifts from foreign sources in 2009. The disposition for most of these gifts is listed as the national archive. In order to reduce the debt, these gifts could be sold to private citizens. There would be additional benefit from the reduction in the cost of storing these gifts.
