Bob Feller is arguably the greatest right handed pitcher of his generation, and inarguably the greatest name in Cleveland franchise history. He is also defined by his commitment to his country as the first professional baseball player to enlist in the service after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. At the age of 23 Feller declined deferment and put his All-Star Major League career on hold to join the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Alabama. He earned the rank of Chief Petty Office and was decorated with six campaign ribbons and eight battle stars. Bob’s legacy is continued through the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation, which recognizes current and Hall of Fame Major Leaguers who support our service men and women, as well as a Chief Petty Officer with the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award.
