On November 15, 2004 Sgt. Rafael Peralta, USMC, threw his body on a grenade thrown by Iraqi insurgents, losing his life, but saving the lives of his squad members. Although Sgt. Peralta was awarded the Navy Cross for his actions on that day, but he clearly deserves to be awarded the nation's highest award, the Congressional Medal of Honor. Recently his file was reviewed, but the Medal of Honor was denied him by Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. We, the American people, ask that as Commander in Chief President Obama overrule that decision and award Sgt. Peralta the CMH. His actions clearly warrant the upgrade of his Navy Cross. Please don't cheapen this man's heroic actions by denying him the medal that he so clearly deserves.
