Astronaut Scott Kelly is currently serving on the International Space Station on a year-long mission along with Russian Cosmonaut Mikhail Korniyenko. This mission is gathering crucial data on how the body reacts to long-term weightlessness. Kelly volunteered for this inherently dangerous mission knowing that, because he has an identical twin, Mark, comparisons between their physiology are particularly valuable from a scientific standpoint.
Upon his return, he is a worthy candidate to receive the "Congressional Space Medal of Honor." He certainly will have satisfied the criteria, that this medal be awarded to "any astronaut who in the performance of his duties has distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious efforts and contributions to the welfare of the Nation and mankind."
