When shots rang out Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, Principal Dawn Hochsprung ran from a room where she was meeting with a parent and other staff members. She did not think twice about what the consequences for her actions would be. On December 14th, 2012, Hochsprung, a devoted wife and mother, was murdered when she lunged at the alleged gunman that ravaged Sandy Hook Elementary. This is act of heroism is rare, as well as deserving of an award such as this.
